I'm a passionate amateur gardener and writer living in the Adelaide Hills.
I haven't done a minute of professional study or work in this area but I’m trying to make up for lost time. Sometimes this involves getting the tools out at night or driving hours to get to a rare plant fair. Or pulling over in heavy traffic to text ABC Talkback Gardening.
In 2009 I was the SA winner & a national finalist in Gardening Australia’s Garden of the Year award (Waterwise category). The photo shoot for the award was in Movember and I had a mo like Tom Selleck.
I also do writing in other areas, including freelance. I’ve had two books of poetry published. I work in State Government for a day job, and try to write a lot as part of that.
I once attempted the crossing into a dream job: bureaucracy at the Adelaide Botanic Gardens. I didn’t get it, but there’s time - it will come again.
I started this site with the idea of doing gardening with a twist. On one hand it is an attempt to reach out with selected thoughts that, of the thousands that pop into my head each day, could be of value to others.
But I also want to link gardens with other things in life. There is already a wealth of 'base information' on plants out there, along with specialist advice. There are hundreds of sites telling you how to grow tomatoes, or selecting planter boxes for courtyards. I want to add something new, and along the way hopefully offer something for both greenthumbs and brownthumbs.
Finally, there are still not many garden blogs out there. This is in stark contrast to the worlds of food, music, fitness, self-improvement & the like, where the internet is awash with bouncy blogs & Instagram feeds chronicling every minute of ego-movement. I want to do my tiny bit to change that.
Hope you enjoy!
